The art of the non-apology

Standard

I just read the so-called apology from Rush Limbaugh to Sandra Fluke, and I have but two words: Fuck him. And three more after that: Fuck His Apology. There was nothing at all… in the statement that he issued that could be construed as an apology other than the words ‘I’m sorry’.
The rest is just a reiteration of his nonsense. “My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.” Really? You dog a woman out for three days on the fucking air in front of god and everybody (mostly everybody) and *this* is how you issue an apology? Through a PR rep and not even in person or on the air? What in the entire fuck?
He apologized for his “word choices” and he said that he “chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.” What exactly does he feel that calling her a *slut* and a *prostitute* and demanding to watch her having sex was, precisely? How was there anything analogous to that other than a long weekend being a submissive at Madame Dominativa’s? Where is there a substitute word choice that is going to make that whole line of attack on that issue less pejorative?
The only thing this apology has shown is that he’s hemorrhaging money from his sponsors. Keep hitting him, I say, until his show is dead. Because he has shown, more than once, that there is no merit to his speech or any kind of meaningful contribution to the discourse. He needs to go.
